XPonCard’s History


XPonCard’s history dates back to 1957, when Inplastor
AB
began a printing shop in
Stockholm that specialized
in plastic coating. Since 1965, Inplastor has produced
blank cards, as well as advertising and information
materials printed in its facilities in Motala and Strängnäs.
 

ID Kort AB was formed in 1968 in Strängnäs. The company

manufactured Sweden’s first secure identification cards,
followed by the Swedish drivers’ license of the
1970s.
During the 1980s, the company produced Visa
and MasterCards
and during the 1990s it began production
of chip cards, such as
the Cash card, and loyalty
cards. In 2003 XPonCard began
development and production
of the first Swedish credit cards with
chips in
compliance with the EMV standard.

 

In Denmark, dz danmark founded its plant for printing

forms in 1971. Seven years later it introduced plastic

cards to the Danish market. In the mid-1980s, dz danmark

started production of Dankort and during the

1990s it developed the first SIM card solutions for

mobile operators. In 2004 the company delivered the

first bank cards with EMV chips to Danish banks.

 

ID data A/S in Norway was formed in 1976 and in 1989 ID

Kort AB/S took over as the new owner. Production of Visa

cards began in the 1980s and the company manufactured

identification cards and MasterCards in the 1990s. The

first EMV card in Norway was delivered in 2004.

 

The company dz Finland Oy initiated operations in 1994.

The Finnish customer service center was inaugurated in

1998 and certified by Visa and MasterCard in 2003.

 

Graphium AB owned the companies in Sweden, Norway,

Finland, and Denmark from the mid 1990s until 2001.

At that time Graphium sold the graphics operation to

Finnish Edita after which the business concentrated on

plastic cards. Graphium changed its name to XPonCard

in order to underline the new company’s focus.

 

In 2000, XPonCard International Ltd. A/S was formed

with offices in London and Bangkok.

The Moscow branch opened in 2003 and in 2004

XPonCard opened offices in Tallinn, Warsaw, and Miami.

In 2005 opened XPonCard offices in Latvia and Indonesia
and in 2006 offices in Lithuania, United Arab Emirates and Philippines.
